The current First Secretary of the PS should face the mayor of Rouen, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, in the second round. The mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin, Hélène Geoffroy, comes in third place.

The current First Secretary of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, came first in the first round of the party congress on Thursday. His motion “To Win”, would have obtained between 47.5 and more than 50% of the votes, according to the first trends.

Since the end of the ballot Thursday evening, it is a real battle of figures between socialists which takes place on social networks. Olivier Faure’s team assures that the First Secretary obtained more than 50% of the vote, while those close to the mayor of Rouen, the outsider Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, affirm that the threshold has not been crossed.

But it is the mayor of Rouen that Olivier Faure should face next week during the second round of the PS congress. Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol’s motion, “Refoundations”, would have obtained around 30% of the vote.

PS members will vote on January 19, before a congress scheduled for January 27 to 29 in Marseille.

The future of Nupes at stake?

The mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin, Hélène Geoffroy, very critical of Nupes, comes in third place, with around 20% of the vote, according to the first trends.

The final results could not be known until Friday morning. And will be scrutinized closely by the Nupes. At the end of the first round, will Olivier Faure’s two competitors join forces against him? Some do not exclude the hypothesis.

Thursday morning, Stéphane le Foll thus said on Public Sénat to wish “a gathering” of Hélène Geoffroy and Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol to take the lead of the party, with “always the prospect of an alliance on the left, but not on a political line dictated by LFI”.
