At the end of 2019, the scandal surrounding the German software retailer Lizengo made waves. At that time, Lizengo had been on the market longer and sold, among other things, Microsoft licenses at bargain prices. This went well until a cooperation with Edeka started, problems with the keys arose and the media hype increased. Finally, Microsoft contacted Lizengo and sued the company. The accusation was that the Cologne license dealer had offered Office and Windows keys that were not remotely suitable for this purpose. In addition, there were volume licenses that were neither intended for private use nor represented “used licenses” in the sense. However, this is how they were advertised. It turned out that the provider resold activation keys that were not intended for the European market, the source is said to have been in China. As a result, Lizengo had to shut down its business for the time being and filed for insolvency.
“Gold Partner” from Microsoft
After the surprising comeback in May, the German web shop is no longer available without further notice. Lizengo.de is currently redirecting to a website of the Onex Group in Poland. The Onex Group took over Lizengo in 2021 and tried to continue the business. In Poland, Onex is even an official “gold partner” of Microsoft.
The Onex Group has not yet provided any information on the shutdown of Lizengo.
