The controversy surrounding the opening of streets in the El Pescado stream wetland tends to deepen. After the neighborhood complaints and the defense that the Municipality made of these works, now the neighborhood assembly dedicated to guarding the environmental preservation of the course, the only one in the Province considered by a law and an ordinance as a “Protected Landscape”, came out to express its opposition. At the same time, he called an open meeting for tomorrow.
“From the Popular Committee of Villa Garibaldi-Arana-Correas we speak out against the opening of streets in the wetland and any work that goes against the protection of the landscape of El Pescado. We are convinced that any work or real estate development will harm the environment and will cause us to suffer floods in a few years, the stream becomes contaminated and it will be too late. We will meet on Monday 9.30 at 19 and 670”, expresses the call that was circulated in these last hours.
In the middle of the week, members of the assembly came out to question the work of opening streets in the border area between the Villa Garibaldi urbanization and the floodplain of the stream.
After the complaint became public, the Municipality confirmed that it is its own work and rejected that it contradicts the protection regulations.
As indicated by the Commune, the machines advance with soil movement at the height of 19th street, from 670 to 673.
In the assembly they maintain that ordinance 12,079 prevents progress beyond 670 street, which delimits the zone of depression of the ground that extends for 800 meters, up to the channel of the stream.
Before consulting this newspaper, it was officially reported that at the request of a report from the municipal Cadastre area, it was found that these streets had been ceded to public use “for many years.” Meanwhile, it was added that “the Commune carried out an inspection where they surveyed the tasks that are carried out from calle 18 to 19 bis between streets 670 and 672. It was then confirmed that calle 671 between 18 and 19 bis is in the demarcation process. In addition, it was reported that “670 street was already open and passable before.”
According to the Municipality, all the actions comply with the regulations for the preservation of the basin, which prevents building beyond 670 street, to the south: “The current ordinance does not authorize the development of any type of urbanization in said blocks, since It’s about a protected zone. In other words, opening streets is one thing, and another – which is prohibited – is the development of an urbanization ”, he pointed out.
