Richard Saturnino Owens, or Rick Owens, was born in Porterville, California, in 1962. He studied at the Otis College of Art and Design, and in the late 1980s he joined a sportswear company owned by Michele Lamy, whom he later married.
He has received several design awards throughout his career, including the Perry Ellis Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America and the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.
He is known as the Godfather Of Brutal Girls, since their outfits are used by stratospheric figures of the show such as Madonna, Courtney Love and Rihanna.
