Four days before the coronation ceremony of the new King of England, the 13 Hours lets you discover the details of the outfits required by the dress code for this event, during which the whole world will have its eyes riveted on London.

A golden tunic and coat: this is what Charles III will wear on Saturday May 6, just before receiving the crown. This outfit has not been worn since the coronation of Elizabeth II. According to Caroline de Guitaut, assistant curator of the king’s works of art, “the cloth is made of gold cloths (…) These are very heavy garments to wear.” This symbol-covered cloak was created for George IV over 200 years ago and has been worn by six other sovereigns.

Military uniforms combed through

The king has already tried on his outfits during rehearsals, out of sight. In the street, 7,000 soldiers will be on their 31, like the Scottish guards. A tailor in London (UK) picks up everything that comes to hand, to ensure that a badly sewn button does not cause stress. 2,200 guests are expected at Westminster Abbey. Everyone’s outfit will be scrutinized with the greatest attention.
