On May 6th, Charles III. and Camilla crowned in London. Here you can find out where and when the coronation will be broadcast live on TV and in the stream.

London – 70 years have passed since the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II (96, † 2022) – it was the first coronation of a British monarch to be televised. In 1953 her eldest son Charles was just four years old, now at the age of 74 he will be officially crowned king himself on May 6th in a solemn ceremony in Westminster Abbey, even if Charles III. ascended the throne immediately after the death of the Queen on September 8, 2022. The event of the century is covered by media around the world, and several broadcasters in Germany are also broadcasting the coronation of the regent.

TV stations and live streams: Who is broadcasting Charles’ coronation?

ARD: Around 9:30 am starts in the first die Special “King Charles III. – The Coronation in London”. In the more than five-hour live report, which can also be seen in the ARD stream, royal house expert Leontine Countess von Schmettow and ARD foreign correspondent Annette Dittert comment on the coronation of King Charles with guests in the London studio. ZDF: In the second, the highlights of the coronation order 7:25 p.m in the ZDF Royal “King Charles III. – Coronation in London” presents. The summary is commented on by Royal expert Julia Melchior and TV presenter Christina von Ungern-Sternberg.

RTL: On RTL you can get in the mood for the coronation from 4:50 a.m. with the five-part documentary series “The Real Crown: Love, Duty and Last in the House of Windsor”. Around 9:00 o’clock starts this Exclusive special “King at last – Charles ascends the throne!” RTL presenter Frauke Ludowig followed the coronation together with aristocratic expert Michael Begasse and fashion designer Guido Maria Kretschmer in the Cologne studio. Guests were Eduard Prince von Anhalt, Countess Stephanie von Pfuel and presenter Mareile Höppner. Katharina Delling, Ulrich Oppold and comedian Wigald Boning report live from London on King Charles’ coronation. The stream is available on RTL+. Around 4 p.m follows the documentary “King Charles III. – Between love and vocation”.

Sat 1: Around 9:30 am goes Sat.1 with the Special “This is the crowning glory!” to broadcast. Presenter Marlene Lufen receives Ross Antony, Charlotte Countess von Oeynhausen, Heinrich Prince of Hanover and Major William Hunt live in the studio in London. Karen Heinrichs and Benjamin Bieneck report from Buckingham Palace, while Benedikt Amara captures the atmosphere in front of Westminster Abbey. Special highlight: After losing to the broadcaster at the start of the new episodes of “Joko & Klaas versus ProSieben”, you have to Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer circulation to comment on the coronation live from the Berlin studio for an hour at ProSieben’s sister station Sat.1 11:00 o’clock should you royal special mission start. The live broadcast can be streamed at Joyn. Sat.1 closes the coronation day with two portraits 4 p.m runs “The Era of Diana – Faces of a Princess Consort”afterwards at 6:00 p.m. “The Charles Era – Faces of a King”.

Coronation of King Charles live on TV: how interested are Germans?

According to a recent YouGov poll, 36 percent of Germans want the coronation of King Charles III. watch on TV, 10 percent of the people surveyed even intend to follow the entire coverage. It remains to be hoped that there will be no undesirable incidents. Security forces are on high alert after a man was arrested on May 2 for throwing objects on the grounds of Buckingham Palace.
