Covid cases rise, but there is no greater use of chinstraps/ g. nail it down
The circulation of the Covid-19 virus remains “very high” in the country, according to the health authorities, and the situation occurs in a context in which there is also a significant increase in other respiratory infections and on days of high traffic of people who go on vacation. Meanwhile, what does not grow in this proportion is the sale of chinstraps, which is slightly higher than that of months ago, when almost no cases were registered.
In mid-November of last year, after long months of general relaxation due to the drop in infections, a slow and gradual escalation of cases began. Now we are facing a picture of the situation that, according to what was indicated in the Ministry of Health of the Nation, in the last week, a little more than 72,500 people tested were positive.
Around the beginning of December, the population began to be urged to return to the use of masks in closed places and with little ventilation, especially in public transport, shops and offices. In some workspaces in the private sector its use is suggested, in private offices and clinics it is tending to be mandatory. In our city, at least on the street and in the premises of various items, there is no warning that this protection against the virus is extended.
Sales up a bit
The thermometer that best measures the use of masks is found in pharmacies, where some growth in the sale of these protections is observed. Such is the case of the premises in the Parque San Martín neighborhood. Marcelo Sánchez, its owner, indicated that “it seems that little by little the use of chinstraps is intensifying; It is not an exponential demand: all kinds are available, but much more is being requested than two months ago, people are taking more precautions again”.
Another professional, Marcelo García, in this case with a pharmacy in Gonnet, also emphasized that “the demand for chinstraps or face masks has grown” and opined, in this sense, that the trend “always comes hand in hand with the number of infections.” García added that “the advantage in this context is that by having a high percentage of the population vaccinated, the symptoms that occur are mild and last one or two days.”
Among the taxi drivers there is already talk of reimposing the mandatory nature of the chinstrap for travel. “If this continues like this -said Juan Carlos Berón, general secretary of the La Plata Taxi Drivers Union-, we are going to have to implement the use again, to protect the passenger and the driver. It is getting complicated with caseloads; there are already a lot of taxi drivers with Covid ”.
Berón anticipated, on the other hand, that he is going to propose in the Deliberative Council that they return to the placement, in the units, of the protection separators between the driver and the passengers, since many of the cars no longer have them. “The idea is that the divider is mandatory,” said the trade unionist.
Number of vaccinated
In the midst of the warnings and recommendations issued by the national and provincial authorities regarding the increase in coronavirus cases in recent weeks, the Situation Room of the Buenos Aires Health portfolio reflected that in La Plata only a little more than 107,000 people They applied the third dose of the vaccine against Covid-19.
According to official data, more than 2 million vaccines were applied in our city. Of these, 747,597 correspond to the
first dose, which implies high vaccine coverage in the local population. In the same tune, the second dose was received by some 684,895 people.
However, those numbers are markedly reduced with respect to booster doses. The data speaks for itself, since the website, prepared based on official records, shows that only 107,664 people from La Plata attended vaccination centers to receive the booster.
The health authorities insist that the population that has not yet applied the reinforcements approach the corresponding points to receive these supplements.
