Although the coronavirus is no longer at the forefront on the world stage, it continues to lurk and new variants are detected every day. During the last few hours, The Spanish Ministry of Health confirmed the arrival of the new COVID subvariant in that country: it is Orthro, a sublineage of the Ómicron strain that keeps everyone on alert.

Fever, myalgia, headache and general malaise are part of the conditions assigned to this subvariant. Like “Kraken”, it has a high contagion multiplicity perspective, although with a behavior similar to Delta in relation to the degree of disease concentrated in the cells of the hosts.

The new variant of Omicron “CH. 1. 1” baptized under the name “Orthro” (Orthrus) aims to become one of the dominant strains of COVID in the coming months and replace Kraken. It should be noted that experts say that it is not much more dangerous than the others. Three months after its appearance, the British press warns that “Orthro is experiencing a surprising and rapid spread.”

From initial reports, it is presumed that “Orthro” would not show signs that it will cause a more serious disease than other strains of the Omicron family. However, there are also reports that this sublineage could have a mutation called P681R, also present in Delta, and that makes it better attack cells with the development of a more serious disease.
