The Argentine Federation of Cardiology, through the National Secretariat for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and assisted Cardio Spaces, has been working for many years on the development of a National Network that brings knowledge of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation to every corner of the country, a very difficult objective. but that it is the supreme goal of this scientific entity, in this course we find ourselves with multiple barriers to achieve it.

A few months ago, we received with great satisfaction the implementation of Law 27,159 and the start of joint work with other companies, coordinated by the National Directorate of Health Emergencies (DINESA) for the creation of a National CPR Instructors Registry and cardiodefibrillator registry. devices (AED), in order to ensure that CPR training is unified and properly accredited, a very important step to improve survival from Cardiac Arrest.

Unfortunately, at this time we again encounter difficulties. It is known throughout the community that during the trial for the unfortunate events that occurred in Villa Gesell, where a 19-year-old lost his life, in the defense statements, the CPR maneuvers were questioned and implicitly placed as probable. cause of death.

The Argentine Federation of Cardiology is forced to issue an opinion on the matter:

1- CPR maneuvers can hardly cause more damage than the victim already has, since they are performed when no vital signs are found, which means that there is circulatory arrest, at that moment the victim is dead and what is attempted is to rescue her.

2- Statements such as those made lead the lay person to fear providing assistance, they do not take into account that Law 27159 in its article 11 exempts the intervening person from civil, criminal or administrative liability derived from compliance with it.

For this reason, we request the careful treatment of such an important issue for society and we urge the parties to investigate thoroughly before issuing statements whose impact goes beyond this judicial instance, compromising and delaying the work of many years.

The entry CPR is not a crime, CPR saves lives was first published on Sin Mordaza.
