A press release made public by the Presidency of the Republic today, Tuesday April 18, 2023 indicates that: “As part of his attentive and continuous monitoring of the dangerous developments in the situation in Sudan, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, current president of the Arab Summit, on Tuesday sent messages to the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, to the Comorian President, Azali Assoumani, President of the AU, and to the Executive Secretary of IGAD, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu “.

This press release explains that the initiative of the President of the Republic comes in view of the accelerated deterioration of the situation in Sudan against a backdrop of continued armed clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, FSR, which have made heavy loss of life and property, which calls for international action to stop the bloodshed and find a peaceful path to resolving the deep crisis in Sudan.

Call to end clashes Sudan: Tebboune calls for collective efforts

Supporting in his message, “in order to contribute effectively to the efforts and collective efforts aimed at ending the fighting between the Sudanese brothers and urging them to quickly return to the peaceful path to resolve the Sudanese crisis in a definitive and lasting manner”.

In this regard, the President of the Republic called for reflection on joint and united action between the four organizations (UN, African Union, League of Arab States and Intergovernmental Authority for Development, IGAD), in order to support the Republic of Sudan. overcome the current crisis.

To conclude, Tebboune stressed, in this sense, that the unification of the efforts of international and regional actors and urgently, aims to work for a ceasefire, to calm the situation and to establish a new era that responds to the aspirations of the brotherly Sudanese people, to live in dignity, peace, harmony and stability.
