Crosby ISD starts classes and launches hybrid day with instruction 4 days a week

HOUSTON – This Monday, August 7, the school district began classes within the metropolitan area of Houston that will put into effect one of the revolutionary proposals in our region: Crosby ISD.

The reason: it will implement a hybrid school calendar that will have most of the time for students studying 4 days a week.

The measure was adopted in late February by the school board of Crosby ISD, a school district that houses more than 6,300 students in 7 schools (five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school) in an area in northeast Harris County.

The main basis for making this decision was the shortage of teachers and the difficulty in filling vacancies.

In fact, by the start of 2023, Crosby ISD had more than 40 open positions that could not be filled. In this way, with a four-day calendar, they sought to attract new teachers.

Sun Country Airline apparently kept passengers without air conditioning inside the plane at the runway.

Until a few years ago, Crosby ISD had 348 teachers, but after the pandemic several resigned without being able to recover that number of losses in the area of teachers.

For this 2023-2024 school year, the minimum salary for teachers in Crosby ISD is $63,025which increases by $1,500 if you have a master’s degree or by $3,000 if you have a doctorate.

The new teaching model will be hybrid, as announced by Crosby ISD School Superintendent Paula Patterson, The first five weeks of the 2023-2024 school year will have a regular five-day schedule, but starting September 8 and ending September 12 April 2024, this will be reduced to four days.

From April 15 to the end of the school year (May 30), students will return to the five-day calendar, so as not to interfere with the state testing period.

Crosby ISD authorities recalled that they made an agreement with the YMCA in order to provide childcare services to those families who have no one to leave their minor children with during the Fridays between September 8 and April 12.

The girl was run over and her coach tried to help the family by raffling off their tickets to see the Argentine star.
