Graduated in Performing Arts in 1981 from the Higher Institute of Art of Cuba, Mestre received training from prominent pedagogues, including Vladimir Pieshkin, from Taganka under the direction of Liubimov. Her incursion into the Nueva Trova Movement in 1968 and her participation in the student theater movement from 1970 earned her recognition at various festivals.
