Raúl Borbolla, a 58-year-old Cuban, appeared in Miami-Dade court on charges of having sexual relations with a minor, who turns out to be his own daughter.
The victim, who was approximately seven years old in 2005, revealed that her father raped her, stating that the sexual abuse occurred on several occasions.
On Tuesday, January 2, authorities arrested Borbolla at his home and, after being questioned, he admitted his guilt before being taken to Miami-Dade’s TGK Jail, where he remains held without bail.
The incident is added to a series of similar cases that have shocked South Florida in recent months, with the aggravating factor, in this case, being that the victim of sexual abuse is the daughter herself.
In November, a man of Cuban origin identified as Rolando Gala Ramírez, 37, was arrested in Miami after being accused of engaging in acts of inappropriate sexual conduct towards his stepdaughter, who was just 11 years old at the time of the alleged abuse and who is now He is 12.
In that case, according to the police report, the minor was inappropriately touched on her breasts and buttocks by the accused and the incident came to light after the girl’s sister witnessed the event. The witness claimed to have seen Rolando Gala kneeling next to the victim’s bed, touching her while she pretended to be asleep.
The alleged abuse occurred in October 2022, at a home in northwest Miami. When questioned by authorities, Gala Ramírez denied the accusations, and said that any physical contact with the minor would have been accidental.
In another recent case, a Miami-Dade police officer was accused of abusing three minors, including his own daughter, and a Honduran man was charged with similar acts against his nine-year-old stepdaughter.
These types of situations have shaken the community, leading authorities and civil organizations to reinforce the call for the protection of minors and raising awareness about reporting and assistance channels for victims of sexual abuse.
