Roguelite, management, dark humor and a diabolically cute lamb, such was the recipe for Cult of The Lamb, developed by Massive Monster and published by Devolver in August 2022. A real favorite of many players and multiple editorial staff, the title is not ready to retire!
One lamb to rule them all
In Cult of the Lamb, we embody a lamb, previously condemned to sacrifice in the name of a pagan cult. All the ages pass there, because a prophecy predicted the end of the gods of the paw of an animal of this species. Fortunately, our hero is saved from death by a banished entity, driven by the desire for revenge. In exchange for this resurrection, players must develop a new cult as a guru, and whose objective is to destroy this strange pantheon. To achieve this, it will take gather followers, develop the cult, eliminate a pack of monsters and acquire new powers.
Anything is possible, but our lamb is at the heart of it all as the chosen guru of the revered god. Multiple marriages, betrayals, sacrifices, demonic rites, you can really go in a direction devoid of goodness, or pamper your little proteges. And they are important because they build, they bring faith, they reap. Customizable, these followers can also turn against the player if they are unhappy, whether because of decisions made, jealousy, unfulfilled requests or an unsanitary camp. Apart from the management and development of the camp, we start explore dungeons, with randomly distributed rooms at each run, and at the end of which is one of the Prelates to be killed.
Excellent summer surprise, Cult of the Lamb was very well received, but some players regretted the lack of real endgame content. The adventure is completed in about fifteen hours and, apart from using the Twitch integration to restart a game by naming followers according to viewers, the interest in returning to it is limited. Massive Monster is aware of this, and has announced a huge updatewhich will be released later this year.
The cult will grow even more in 2023!
Many details remain unknown, but the studio has already unveiled a novelty and outlined the main lines of what awaits us. First, the swords, the ax and the dagger will be equipped with a heavy attack, which will do a lot of damage with a little concentration time. This was a request from the players, which will therefore be satisfied. For the rest, we are told about new features, accessibility options, new challenges, difficulty modes, and a general improvement “quality of life”, in other words the gaming experience.

Other good news announced in the series of tweets posted by the team, the update will be free for all players who have purchased the base game. It is not known, however, whether this big update, which has yet to be detailed, will introduce new monstersnew characters, or even new environments.
Massive Monster seems to have decided to gradually introduce all of this, we should therefore have the opportunity to return to the subject in the coming months.
