Game News Cyberpunk 2077: almost $2 million due to disastrous launch

Remember: in December 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 caused a huge cold shower in the video game sector, among the saltiest for many players. Despite the incessant delays, CD Projekt’s FPS was released in a sorry state, bordering on industrial disaster on PS4 and Xbox One: today, the studio continues to repair the broken pots.

Back to a bad buzz

Life is lighter without textures

Despite the huge expectation of a monstrous community – and quite legitimate, CD Projekt having spawned the fantastic The Witcher trilogy before – Cyberpunk 2077 proved to be a terrible disappointment when it was released. The problem was mainly technical since the game suffered from countless bugs, latencies and many problems that made the experience sometimes unplayable. The title’s condition was even more dire on PS4 and Xbox, where Cyberpunk 2077 was the laughingstock of the web, prompting thousands to opt for a refund.

Two years later, the cyberpunk FPS was frankly repaired with the sweat of the developers who had a lot to catch up on: it even offered pretty versions on PS5 and Xbox Series. Phew. And besides, a solo expansion has yet to see the light of day.

The shooting is corrected, yes, but the Polish firm was sued by its investors in December 2020, during the exit. Particularly chilled by the final product put on sale, they accused CD Projekt of having spawned a game “virtually unplayable on current generation Xbox or Playstation systems due to a huge number of bugs”. They claimed that the studio’s statements were misleading and thus demanded justice.

A costly verdict

This trial is continuing and it was a California judge who gave his approval for CD Projekt to make a settlement of $1.85 million to its investors. An impressive fine which we had already heard of, since the dispute had been made public in December 2021 and it was already the sum of money that was causing the ink to flow.

If the final verdict has not yet been rendered – it should be within a few months – CD Projekt still continues to suffer from this catastrophic start which has done it so much harm. That didn’t stop it from selling over twenty million Cyberpunk 2077.
