In tonight’s Current met Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson and the Social Democrats’ fiscal policy spokesperson Mikael Damberg in a debate about the budget.
According to Damberg, it is healthcare, schools and families with children that will be hit hardest by the government’s budget, which according to him rather prioritizes tax cuts for those with high incomes.
– It sounds like the finance minister is happy, but the reality is that the school is facing big savings. 17 out of 21 healthcare regions are budgeting negative results this year. It is the healthcare and schools that become airbags for the government’s policy, says Damberg.
Svantesson: Can’t blow on
Finance Minister Svantesson replies that she agrees that many households, companies, municipalities and regions are having a tough time right now, but that it is important to do the right thing at the right time, and that the most important thing right now is to push back inflation.
– We do what is required and needed. We support those who need it and make important investments. But right now we can’t blow the whistle because then inflation would be even higher, says Svantesson.
