When Dear little one was released on Netflix on September 7, 2023, the German series had the effect of a bomb. Having become THE fiction to see on the streaming platform, it quickly rose to the top of the charts! Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Romy Hausmann, Dear little one tells the poignant story of a woman living in captivity – and her connection to other women who have been missing for many years. To shoot these particularly gripping sequences, the two young children who play a key role in the series were given a double script, so as not to frighten them. But for actress Kim Riedle, the interpreter of Lena, what were the physical and psychological consequences of Dear little one ? As she reveals to the Netflix site Tudum, this shooting did not leave her unscathed.

“She asked me if anyone was strangling me in the role I was playing”explains Kim Riedle

During this interview, Kim Riedle reveals that she went to consult her physiotherapist, who has been following her for many years, during the filming of Dear little one. The actress obviously did not have the right to talk to him about the current project, nor about her role. Yet, the health professional knew everything that the actress was working on something demanding, exhausting for her body. “She asked me if anyone was strangling me in the role I was playing,” she begins to explain, before adding: “And I just said, ‘No, but (my character) is in captivity. She’s not free.’ And she said to me, ‘Because your body is completely different than it normally is ‘.” The actress continues: “I had the body of someone who was constantly protecting herself. She found it so fascinating to know my body so well, it had completely changed and she felt like she was working on a different person,” declares Lena’s interpreter. Kim Riedle also looks back on her relationship with the two children in the series Dear little one.

Dear little one: how did Kim Riedle work with child actors Naila Schuberth and Sammy Schrein?

Many Internet users wondered how the interpreters of Hannah and Jonathan had been preserved from the atmosphere and brutal scenes of the series. Kim Riedle explains that her first instinct was to care for and protect them: “They are really adorable and bubbly children, and very talented. It’s always joyful to have children around you, but it’s also a challenge, especially when you play in such a project, because the natural instinct is to take care of them. There were times when I had to keep my distance a little bit while we were working, so I could prepare my thing and focus on what I had to do. And we had a great coach for children on the set.”
