The pianist and composer Burt Bacharach, at the origin of many standards of the American variety, has just died at the age of 94, according to his agent, confirming information from the washington post. I Say a Little Prayer, I’ll Never Fall in Love Again… Burt Bacharach composed the music for all these songs, which have become classics.

Born in Kansas City in 1928 and raised in New York, was influenced by jazz, which he would listen to in clubs when he was still a teenager, and by his classical training. Having become a pianist accompanying musicians, he became a musical arranger for Marlene Dietrich in the mid-1950s.

He started writing songs after meeting lyricist Hal David. Together they write I Say a Little Prayersung by Aretha Franklin, The look of loveplayed by Dusty Springfield, or even Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Headperformed by BJ Thomas and featured on the film’s soundtrack Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in 1969. The duo is also at the origin of the song Walk on by, by Dionne Warwick, in 1964.

Burt Bacharach also composed for the cinema, signing the soundtrack of the Casino Royale from 1967, with the songs The look of love. Nominated several times for the Oscars, for songs such as What’s new Pussycatplayed by Tom Jones, Alfiesung by Cilla Black or The look of lovehe won the statuette for Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head in 1969 and Arthur’s themesong from the movie Arthur, in 1982.
