O festival, film, arts and information, is in its seventh edition and aims to “bring public discussion and reduce the stigma of an increasingly pressing issue: mental health”, says the organization in a press release.

Among the initiatives proposed this year are, at Cinema São Jorge, the play “Maré Alta” (19th), by the W+ Unit Therapeutic Theater Group, from Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, and the performance “2” ( 21st), by the Núcleo de Dança Therapy of the Hospital Psiquiátrico de Lisboa.

The cinema program includes, among others, the documentary short film, of a biographical nature, “Borderline”, by Leonor Rocha Oliveira, and the Austrian production “Hello, how are you?”, by Franziska Ebner, about the daily lives of five teenagers who suffer from mental illness.

About the thematic debates of the festival, there will be one on the relationship between sports and mental health, with the participation of psychologist Pedro Almeida, psychiatrist Rui Correia, athlete Mariana Almeida and former footballer Nuno Gomes.

At the end of this debate, the film “Lara’s dream”, by Lukas Dhont, will be shown.

In the debate on Artificial Intelligence will be clinical psychologist Teresa Santos, João Vitória, “one of the pioneers in the use of digital platforms in brand communication in Portugal”, marketing director Fernando Batista and lawyer José Pereira.

Debates on dementia and work are also planned, with the screening of the films “One more round”, by Thomas Vinterberg, and “The father”, by Florian Zeller.

With the aim of reaching more audiences, the festival will be at Quinta das Conchas e dos Lilases, with arts and nature activities for children and bike rides for the elderly.

The Mental Festival is an initiative of the non-profit association Safe Space Portugal, in co-production with the National Coordination of Mental Health Policies and the Ministry of Health.

In addition to the Quinta das Conchas e Lilases park and the São Jorge cinema, the festival also passes through Espaço Atmosfera M and the Ferroviário club.
