The WC snooker competitions began with great drama when environmental activists conquered the playing field. The matches in Sheffield had to be interrupted when two activists jumped into the arena from the crowd.

One of them managed to destroy the Englishmen Robert Milkin and Joe Perry’s table to an unplayable condition. The activist went up to the gaming table and spread the table full of powder.

Also on the other side of the screen, one of the activists tried to get onto the gaming table where Mark Allen from Northern Ireland was playing against Fan Zhengyi from China. Belgian referee Olivier Marteel managed to prevent his intentions.

– I have never seen anything like it in a snooker tournament, commented the seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry in the British BBC broadcast.

Eurosport’s expert Alan McManus did not digest the activities of the activists.

– Attention seekers know no bounds these days, commented 1994 Masters winner McManus.

The activists who rushed into the arena protested against fossil fuels.
