So far, we could say that The Witch Queen expansion of destiny 2 it was the highlight of the game, but its ending raised a lot of questions for which we still don’t have answers. The next expansion of the game, lightfallhas a lot to live up to, but much of it remains a mystery.

While the expansion was originally intended to be the end of Destiny’s current “Light and Darkness” saga, it will now lead to Destiny 2: The Final Shape, yet another expansion revealed by Bungie. So for now, let’s take a look at everything we know about Lightfall ahead of its release next month.

Destiny 2 Lightfall release date?

Lightfall will officially release on February 28, 2023. The expansion was originally scheduled to release in 2022, with the Witch Queen coming in 2021, but it didn’t. However, with Witch Queen adding another quartet of season passes, players will likely have plenty to do in the meantime.

Destiny 2 Lightfall: Platforming

While Sony bought Bungie in January 2022, both parties have expressed interest in Destiny 2 remaining cross-platform, so don’t worry, Xbox gamers, you won’t be left behind. According to the game’s official website, Lightfall will be available on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and PC via Steam, Windows, and the Epic Games Store.

Destiny 2: What is Lightfall about?

Bungie had confirmed that the events of the Witch Queen’s finale will drive the narrative through Lightfall and beyond, with the core concept of the battle between Light and Darkness fading away.

“The Witch Queen will ignite a tightly interconnected narrative across Lightfall and beyond, unlike anything we’ve attempted before, with characters, arcs, heroes, and villains lingering across multiple future releases.”

The guardians are leaving Neomunain Neptune, a new location in Destiny 2. Here we will team up with Cloudstriders, a new civilization that we have not seen before.

We’ll also take on Calus’s new Shadow Legion, who fight alongside creepy-looking new Tormentors.

Destiny 2 Lightfall Content

In a tweet, the account DestinyTwoLeaks noted that a revamp for Sparrow, originally revealed in March, was canceled because “Bungie couldn’t get it to work.” The feature would have seen two-player Sparrows, but it appears to have been removed.

The same account also suggested that a review for power levels is coming – although this would be a considerable change from the way Destiny has operated for years – and also suggested that Bungie was, at least at some point, considering a “Pass card” for the expansion, presumably in the form of the Event Cards we’ve seen so far.

Finally, Bungie has added the Salt Mines area back from the EDZ, according to a Reddit post. This could be due to some upcoming content, it’s hard to say for now.

New thread subclass

Bungie confirmed that we will have a new green subclass, called Strand. Players will discover it and learn how to use it throughout the new campaign. It’ll even come in handy for traversing, with Guardians shown swinging through urban environments.

It is about consciousness and it comes from the Darkness. Guardians will be able to manipulate the connections between living beings. Players can apparently grab anything, with the trains in the Prison of Elders shown pulling them in the trailer.

Here is the summary according to Bungie:

“Masters of movement, speed and grace. The city is a Threadrunner’s playground as they grab threads and weave new ones to launch themselves through the air, finding the fastest path between two points.

“Untamed and savage, the Berserkers tear apart the Strand to manifest claws that they use to tear their targets apart from the Weave. Leaping into danger with wild abandon, the line no one crosses is drawn by a berserker.”

  • Warlock Broodweavers

“Broodweavers effortlessly manipulate weave using only their mind. From the rear, these telekinetic wizards can even turn Strand into sentient creatures to do their bidding.”

Yes ok Beyond Light allows Guardians to use Stasis for the first time, there was no Darkness-based subclass in The Witch Queen. Instead, Bungie reworked Void in Season of the Risen, Solar in Season of the Haunted, and updated Arc in Season 18.

Gun Crafting Review

Lightfall will see further refinement to the weapon crafting system introduced in The Witch Queen, Bungie revealed in one of its weekly blog posts.

The team is working to introduce new ways to earn Deepsight Coins, improve opportunities for players to select the weapon they want to craft, and reduce the need to use a weapon you don’t like just to get its currency.

So Deepsight will only apply to craftable weapons, making things a bit easier to deal with.

Loading systems and mod

Along with the overhaul to weapon crafting, Lightfall will bring a new gear and armor mod system, encouraging players to experiment more with crafting.

  • Loadout System: Bungie is looking to reduce the inconvenience players face when upgrading by introducing loadout slots for players to use. These slots will give players a way to save preset builds that they can swap out if necessary. There will be a maximum of 10 loadout slots per character and they will be unlocked through the Guardian ranking system.
  • Armor Mod Overhaul: Armor mods are receiving sweeping changes across the board to allow for a more streamlined build creation experience. Bungie has recently removed energy types from armor mods and will be looking to further revamp the system with new mods in Lightfall.

New Lightfall Raid

It is speculated that the raid will take place in Neomuna, the location of Lightfall, as this has been the case with the previous Witch Queen and Beyond Light expansions, and it is possible that we are fighting the Cabal given Calus’ importance in the story.

The future of Destiny 2 after Lightfall

Bungie has not only promised to deliver more Destiny content after Lightfall, but has even named the next expansion.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape is expected to arrive in 2024, but there aren’t many details yet. Bungie revealed that The Witch Queen is a “rush moment towards the end”, but no one knows yet what that ending will be, so it remains to wait.
