On September 8, 2023, Netflix released Devoured by flamesa series inspired by a news item that occurred in 2017 in Spain, and a documentary entitled From prison: Rosa’s version, in which the convicted ex-police officer testifies. Rosa Peral, was convicted of the murder of her former boyfriend, Pedro Rodríguez, a police officer whose charred remains were found in a burned-out car in Barcelona. Against a backdrop of toxic relationships, lies, violence and sexual scandals, the investigation reveals that Rosa (played by Ursula Corbero) acted with the complicity of her lover, Albert (Quim Gutiérrez in the series). The real Rosa Peral opposed the release of the Netflix series, by assuring that she would take legal action for infringement of her right to honor. The complaint was rejected, but she wanted to go further.

Rosa Peral now decides to sue the production company for royalties. Is this action likely to succeed? Not really. And for good reason, the victim’s family filed a preventive complaint – both with Netflix and other documentary producers on the subject – so that the possible income of Rosa Peral and Albert López returns to the entourage of the Urban Guard agent murdered. And for good reason, the criminal did not pay the compensation due for her crime, due to lack of funds. What does she owe them?

How much is Rosa Peral ordered to pay to the victim’s family?

During her trial, Rosa Peral was ordered to pay compensation of 450,000 euros to the victim’s son; 225,000 euros to the father; 100,000 euros to each of his brothers and 10,000 euros to his ex-partner. The convicted person was unable to pay this amount. because, as she declared before the magistrates, she does not have this money. Currently, her only source of income is her work at the Mas d’Enric prison, where she receives 120 euros per month. THE Barcelona Provincial Court therefore affirmed on September 7 that “the remuneration or economic compensation that the two convicts have received or are waiting to receive for the commercial exploitation of the case will be intended for the fixed compensation.” If Rosa Peral receives a sum from Netflix, it will go directly to the accounts of the victim’s relatives and not to her own.
