PHOENIX (AP) — Zac Gallen struck out 11 in seven innings, Christian Walker hit a two-run homer and the Arizona Diamondbacks tied up their fourth win by shutting out the Milwaukee Brewers 3-0 on Monday.
Nick Ahmed had three hits and Ketel Marte added two for the D-backs, who went three for four over the weekend against the Dodgers.
Arizona went up 1-0 in the first when Marte reached home on Josh Rojas’s single. Marte started the inning with a double. Walker hit his two-run homer in the fifth and the ball barely cleared the wall in right field.
The Brewers were coming off a great series at home in which they took five of six, but couldn’t crack Gallen (1-1), who finished five in National League Cy Young voting last year. The right-hander allowed three hits and a walk.
Scott McGough pitched a scoreless eighth and Andrew Chafin had his second save.
For the Brewers, the Dominican Willy Adames 4-0. Venezuelan William Contreras 3-1.
For the Diamondbacks, the Dominican Ketel Marte 3-2 with two runs scored. Cuban Lourdes Gurriel Jr. 4-0. The Venezuelan Gabriel Moreno 4-0.
