The companies A&W Concentrate and Keurig Dr. Pepper Inc have reached a preliminary agreement to pay $15 million as part of a class action lawsuit that accused them of misleading the ingredients of their root beer and cream soda.
Both products were advertised as being made with “aged vanilla,” but the vanilla flavor actually came from artificial flavorings, according to case documents.
Thanks to the deal, eligible shoppers will be given “nearly a full refund” of the money they spent on these two beverages.
STEP BY STEP: THIS IS HOW YOU CAN GET YOUR MONEY
The first thing you should know is that claims are not being accepted yet. These must be done through the website RootBeerAndCreamSodaSettlement.com when active.
Who can request the refund of the money? If you bought any of these two products between February 7, 2016 and June 2, 2023, you can be part of the money claim.
How much money will I receive, if I am eligible? Buyers who are accepted as part of the agreement will receive a minimum of $5.50 and a maximum of $25.
Do you have to have a purchase receipt? A receipt is not required to be eligible. However, this means that those without a receipt will receive $5.50, while those who do will get an additional 50 cents per unit for up to 39 units. The agreement clarifies that a unit refers to a single quantity of the product, such as “one 12-pack, one 24-pack, one 2-liter bottle, one 20-ounce bottle, etc.”
What products are in the lawsuit? If you bought some of these products, you can be part of this lawsuit. Of the Root Beers: regular, diet, Zero Sugar, Ten; while of the Cream Soda the regular, diet and zero sugar.
When would I receive my money? The $25 million will be distributed among all eligible buyers. There is still no clear date on when the money would be received, as the final approval hearing for the deal is scheduled for September 18.
