Diosdado Cabello, number two of the Venezuelan dictatorship, arrives in Cuba

Havana, Aug 7 (EFE).- The first vice president of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), God given hairarrived in Cuba on Monday at the head of a delegation from the formation to meet with senior officials of the Communist Party (PCC, the only legal one) and the island’s government.

The visit of the number two of Chavismo will last until Friday, and its main objective is “to continue strengthening relations between the PCC and the PSUV,” according to the insular Communist Party on its website.

The PSUV leader has an agenda that includes official talks with the organization secretary of the PCC, Roberto Morales, and talks with other high-ranking Cuban officials about the work of both formations and the possibilities of “strengthening inter-party exchange and collaboration.”

Cabello traveled to Santiago de Cuba (east) -the second most important city- accompanied by five vice presidents and other members of the PSUV national leadership.

The PCC communiqué stresses that its ties with the PSUV “are cemented on the bases of common principles such as anti-imperialism, solidarity, the defense of democracy and cooperation.”

He stresses that Cuba maintains “its firm support for the Bolivarian process, for President Nicolás Maduro and for the civic-military unity he leads.”

Cuba and Venezuela have been close political and economic allies since the late President Hugo Chávez came to power in 1999.

Starting in 2000, Venezuela became the main supplier of crude oil to the Caribbean island through an agreement that grants preferential prices in exchange for medical and educational services. EFE
