The Minister of Housing, Urban Planning and the City, Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, recently made an announcement regarding ongoing efforts to improve housing processes in Algeria.
According to Algérie Presse Service, he said his sector is thinking about how to digitize the distribution operation of public rental housing (LPL). This means that the ministry is working on setting up an online system for managing the distribution of housing, which should facilitate and speed up the process.
As part of this digitization, the minister said during a plenary session of the National People’s Assembly (APN): “We have seen protests against the distribution operations from disgruntled citizens. We are currently planning to carry out the distribution of housing in a computerized way”.
Nevertheless, Mohamed Tarek Belaribi made it clear that the distribution of public rental housing (LPL) is managed by commissions headed by the head of Daïra, and not by his ministry.
In addition, he said that his department was also working on changes concerning assisted promotional housing (LPA). According to the same source, adjustments will be made in order to improve things and thus provide affordable and quality housing for Algerian citizens.
LPL: how many accommodations are available?
These initiatives are very significant, but it is important to know how many accommodations are available throughout the national territory. Following a question posed by MP Rabah Djedou, the Minister of Housing, Urban Planning and the City announced that 62,000 housing units completed are available in the country. In addition, he urged the walis to work with the wilaya commissions to speed up the distribution of these homes, so that they can be made available to Algerian citizens as soon as possible.
In order to shed light on the progress of things, and on the number of housing units finalized during the current five-year period, Belaribi reveals that the wilaya of Biskra, for example, has a “a program with a total of 25,027 housing units, of which 6,223 have been finalized, 14,563 being launched and 4,241 in progress”.
