It took a few weeks to wait, but finally the long-awaited video of Digital Foundry dedicated to Hogwarts Legacy has been published and reveals every detail from a technical point of view of the action RPG set in the Harry Potter universe.

The team of experts analyzed each of the 21 graphics modes proposals between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The result that emerges from all these tests is that Hogwarts Legacy is a good product on the technical side but, at the same time, there are major flaws involving all platforms and video modes.

Among the main criticisms we find the quality of the facial animations and the complete absence of shadow maps, not to mention themid-implementation of Ray Tracing in the graphic modes that support it: in these cases, in fact, it can be noted that many bodies of water and other generously sized elements of the scenario do not enjoy the benefits of RT.

As for the comparison between the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions, it would seem that the game is almost identical with some small exceptions in favor of the PlayStation 5 in the performance mode and in the Ray Tracing ones. However, Digital Foundry tends to clarify that not even on PS5 the game is perfect and both versions suffer from stuttering and framerate drops which occur with some regularity. The only way to improve the situation is to use the VRR modes on supported panels, although it is only a way to limit the problems and not eliminate them altogether. The experts also reveal that, with the VRR active, the two consoles are equal and there is no imbalance whatsoever, not even minimal.

Finally moving on to the loading timesit would seem that PS5 and Xbox Series X are very fast and only Series S requires a few more moments especially in the phases of leaving the Hogwarts castle.

While waiting to find out how the game will behave on older generation consoles, we reveal a trick to speed up the loading of Hogwarts Legacy on PlayStation 5.
