Does special counsel appointment change Hunter Biden's deal?

WASHINGTON — By way of justifying the barrage of criticism from legislators and the distrust of many Americans in the Department of Justice, US Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Friday that he has appointed a special counsel in the investigation of Hunter Biden, deepening the investigation of the son of the president before the 2024 elections.

It would be necessary to see if it is another political strategy in the face of the irritation of the majority of Americans to protect Biden’s son, or is it an action in the opposite direction to what has been seen so far: protection and impunity with respect to the Biden family, in the midst of a political manhunt against the frontrunner Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election.

House Republicans are conducting their own investigation into Hunter Biden’s business dealings and dozens of alleged felonies.

Garland said he is appointing David Weiss, the federal prosecutor in Delaware who has been investigating the president’s son’s financial and business dealings, as special counsel.

Just as his appointment as special counsel was announced, Weiss notified a federal judge in Delaware that talks about a plea deal in the Hunter Biden case were at an “impasse.”

Garland pointed to the “extraordinary circumstances” of the matter when he made the announcement at the Justice Department. He said Weiss asked to be appointed to the position and was told that “in his judgment, his investigation has reached a stage where he should continue his work as special counsel.”

“In considering his request, as well as the extraordinary circumstances related to this matter, I have concluded that it is in the public interest to appoint him as special counsel,” Garland said.

The measure occurs after severe criticism from representatives and senators against the Department of Justice led by Garland and seems more like an act of justification than an action of justice against the well-known son Biden, who, along with his father, has clearly received preferential treatment over to the constant harassment of former President Trump and Joe Biden’s main rival in next year’s elections.

Last month, Hunter Biden’s plea deal for tax evasion fell apart after federal District Court Judge Maryellen Noreika, who was appointed by President Donald Trump, raised several concerns about the details.

Millions of Americans watch the agreements Hunter Biden as an insult and preferential treatment to Hunter Biden, with an extensive list of alleged crimes of a major nature and even linked to the country’s national security.

Republicans scoffed at that agreement as a “sweet” deal while pushing their own investigation.

The Republicans also corroborated that Weiss was prevented from becoming a special counsel, and apparently this new measure is to appease the heated spirits of Republican representatives and senators against the Department of Justice.

By being appointed special counsel, Weiss will have broader authority to conduct a broader investigation in various areas. The important thing is that this investigation is really carried out with the rigor required by the case of Hunter Biden and the Biden family in general, including President Joe Biden.
