Donations are urgent: supplies of the Mutual Services Blood Bank are at zero

The Mutual Services Blood Bank reported on Friday that its blood supplies are at zero, leading the municipality of Fajardo to collaborate in organizing a bloodletting.

“We have empty supplies, the refrigerators are empty, we cannot cover the needs of the hospitals,” Rivera said in written statements. According to Rivera, donating one unit of blood has the potential to save up to three lives.

The activity brought together both city council employees and Fajardo residents who wished to contribute. Mayor José Aníbal Meléndez Méndez, a regular donor, also participated in the initiative.

“The call is for every person able to donate to come to the centers of the Blood Bank. If we come together, I’m sure we’ll fill those supplies. The process does not take more than 45 minutes,” said Meléndez Méndez.

As a background, the Mutual Services Blood Bank has centers in Hato Rey, Guaynabo, Bayamón and Ponce. Those interested in donating blood can do so by calling 787-751-6115.
