Don't put away the umbrellas: week of intermittent rain scheduled for the New York area

NEW YORK — A truly beautiful start to summer is set for Wednesday, but there’s little sun to look forward to for the rest of the week.

For almost everyone in the tri-state area, the morning starts out sunny before a long, dry day kicks off the new season. The chances of rain will not arise until the evening.

But whatever ends up falling as the day turns to Thursday kicks off a relentless week of intermittent showers amid a truly unsettled weather week that also threatens thunderstorms. It’s not about when it will rain, but about how much it will fall in the middle of next week.

Chances of rain are highest on Thursday with a windy, gray and cool day where temperatures will have a hard time reaching the 70s. Enjoy the refreshment because the following days will only bring high temperatures and higher humidity.

The showers and storms will be sporadic for almost a week and will last through the weekend and into the beginning of next week. Dew points will increase significantly this weekend.

After a week of showers and scattered thunderstorms across the tri-state area, some areas could measure as much as 4 inches. Rain totals should be higher inland, while the city and those to the east will see less than a couple of inches.
