Zelensky and Biden talk after rebellion in Russia

WASHINGTON — From the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, indicated this Sunday that he spoke with his American counterpart, Joe Biden, about the abortive rebellion of the Wagner paramilitary group in Russia the eve.

“We talked about the course of hostilities and the ‘processes’ that are taking place in Russia. The world must put pressure on Russia until world order is restored,” the Ukrainian president said on social media, praising “a positive and inspiring conversation ” with Biden.

“The leaders discussed recent events in Russia,” the White House confirmed in a statement.

Between Friday night and Saturday night, the head of the Wagner group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, whose troops are fighting alongside the Russian army in Ukraine, carried out an armed rebellion on Russian soil aimed at overthrowing the military command, with whom he has been in conflict for months.

But, following an unexpected agreement reached by Prigozhin and the Kremlin on Saturday night and mediated by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, the businessman claimed that he had ended his operation.

The Russian presidency stated that Prigozhin would leave Russia and move to Belarus, and that neither he nor the fighters who supported him would face criminal prosecution.

Volodimir Zelensky and Joe Biden also discussed “defense cooperation, with an emphasis on long-range weapons” and the next NATO summit, scheduled for mid-July in Vilnius, Lithuania, the Ukrainian president said in Twitter.
