– This year, the National Board of Health and Welfare has set a lower limit for both men and women, and it is nine standard units per week, says Zeb Freij, ST doctor in Region Västernorrland.
According to the organization IQ, which is a subsidiary of Systembolaget, alcohol consumption and time off often go hand in hand – every third Swede (33 percent) stated that they drank alcohol three to four days a week or more often during the holidays. Just over one in ten Swedes (13 percent) have drunk so much alcohol during the holiday that they have questioned their own drinking habits.
Four out of five: Alcohol not central
But during the Christmas holidays, research shows that the population does not think alcohol is as important.
– Statistics from IQ show that four out of five do not think that alcohol is that important, it does not have a central role in the Christmas celebration, says Zeb Freij.
