Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Wednesday called for the “elimination” of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in retaliation for an alleged drone attack on the Kremlin, blamed by Moscow on Kiev.

“After today’s terrorist attack, there is no alternative except the physical elimination of Zelensky and his clique,” Dmitry Medvedev wrote on Telegram.

He is the current number two on the Russian Security Council and accustomed to vitriolic statements.

Ukraine denies any involvement in the attack

Earlier in the afternoon, the Ukrainian president for his part affirmed that Ukraine had not “attacked Putin”.

“We leave (Vladimir Putin) in court. We are fighting on our territory, we are defending our villages and our cities,” said the Ukrainian head of state during a press conference in Helsinki, Finland, with leaders of northern European countries.

Shortly before 2 p.m. (Paris time) on Wednesday, Moscow announced that it had been the target of “two unmanned aerial vehicles”, which were aimed at the Kremlin dome. “Thanks to the rapid action of the army and special services with the use of wartime radar systems, the machines were put out of service,” said the Russian presidency.

As a reminder, the Russian president was not present in the Moscow capital during the attack, and therefore suffered no injuries.

At least 21 dead in Kherson on Wednesday

This incident comes just a few days before the big military parade on May 9 celebrating the victory over Nazi Germany in 1945. It is nevertheless maintained, indicated the Russian presidency.

Ukraine’s alleged attack also comes hours before further Russian strikes in Ukraine’s Kherson region. According to the Ukrainian presidency, these bombings would have caused the death of 21 people and injured 48 others.
