You see, the movement seems to indicate that Wizards of the Coasts is rethinking its broader approach to digital gaming, even as its most notable next entry, Baldur’s Gate 3, nears its end.

A Wizards of the Coast spokesperson told Bloomberg that fewer than 15 people at the company would lose their jobs because of the decision and that they will have the opportunity to apply for different roles. However, it’s unclear how much of an impact the cuts will have on developers like Otherside Entertainment (Underworld Ascendant) or Hidden Path Entertainment (Defense Grid), two of the studios working on the projects.

Recall that a subsidiary of Hasbro, the company best known as the publisher of the Dungeons & Dragons board games, which have grown in popularity in recent years. Whereas, Wizards of the Coast recently introduced One D&D, the intended replacement for the successful fifth edition tabletop system.

In 2021 Wizards of the Coast launched Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliancea spiritual successor to a series derived from Baldur’s Gate which garnered mostly negative reviews. Baldur’s Gate 3, which is the product of the prestigious RPG studio Larian, will be released at the end of 2023.
