Dunkirk: carnival goers enter the seagull cry competition

The competition has not yet started and the public is already excited, Sunday February 19. In Dunkirk (North), the seagull cry competition takes place in an atmosphere as only the city has the secret. The first candidate, Nico, is in his 4th participation, but he still has the same motivation. On stage, 12 candidates are present, all with their style. Some seagulls come from afar like Archibaleta, a participant in the competition, having crossed the Basque Country to confront the biggest. “The seagull of the Basque Country looks more like a gull but it loves to sing (…)”he says.

Have good shades

Facing the seagulls, the jury is demanding, sometimes with excellent or very severe marks. You have to know how to recognize the talent of a good seagull. “The cry of a good seagull is the nuances as in music”, explains Franck Gorille, member of the jury. Nuance, Captain Moumou had it in spades. He is declared 2023 world champion of the cry of the seagull. “It’s a crazy thing (…). I’ve been able to do the seagull for only a year, it came like that and look where I am, I’m so happy”he confides.
