After the pandemic years, the E3 gaming trade fair finally wanted to take off as a real event again this year. But nothing will come of it – because the three major providers of console platforms do not want to come.

Neither Microsoft, Sony nor Nintendo will be attending this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the magazine reported IGN. There might still be something to see for the interested gamers. The companies in question will probably hold their own showcase events at the same time as E3 – this seems to be firmly planned at Microsoft in particular – but you probably won’t find them at the exhibition center.

There are currently no official confirmations of this, which is why there is nothing to be learned about the reasons that prevent the console manufacturers from looking for their audience at the event. At least as far as Sony is concerned, it would have been a bit of a surprise if the company had been there again – because the Japanese had already withdrawn in 2019 because of an alleged conflict with the US industry association Entertainment Software Association, which organizes the fair .

opportunity would be good

This is different at Microsoft. Lots of game fans must have expected to be able to see the latest developments when they travel to the Los Angeles Convention Center in June for the first time in many years. With many major Xbox game releases coming up anyway, E3 certainly wouldn’t have been the worst place to showcase them.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently at least made it clear that Microsoft has no differences with the organizer. “Xbox is on the board of ESA and I think a successful and healthy ESA is critical to what we are trying to do,” he said. “As I said, we are on the board and we want to make sure we do everything we can to make E3 a success.” Just probably not by your own presence.

summary

  • Still, there might be something for gamers to see.
  • Companies will likely host their own showcase events.
  • Sony had already withdrawn in 2019 due to a conflict with the organizer.
