The earthquake in Turkey and Syria left more than 20,000 dead and tens of thousands injured, survivors are being searched in the affected areas, in a humanitarian mission, Argentina will send a brigade of 32 rescuers tonight to travel to the disaster area with equipment for search and rescue of people.

The Argentine Government will finalize this Thursday night the sending of a brigade of 32 troops with equipment for the search and rescue of people to Turkey, in a humanitarian aid mission coordinated by the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Security and the Argentine Agency for International Cooperation and Humanitarian Assistance – White Helmets (Aciah).

The team is made up of 32 “highly qualified” personnel in terms of Technical Search; Canine Search; Medical assistance; Dangerous materials; Structural engineering; Support for Reception and Departure Centers (RDC) and Support for the Field Operations Coordination Center (OSOCC), as well as Support for the USAR Coordination Cell (UC), it was officially reported.

During the farewell ceremony for the team at the PFA Headquarters, the Minister of Security, Hannibal Fernandezremarked that “two towns, from where many have come to live in our country, are having a terrible time and summon us. We said present.”

The brigade that will go to Turkey for humanitarian aid is also made up of the dogs Indio (Belgian Sheepdog Millinois) and Akira (Border Collie) to detect human remains and a group specialized in technical rescue, another specialized in hazardous materials, an engineer structural, members of the communications area and medical personnel, all belonging to different areas of the PFA.

Rescuers continue to search for thousands of people suspected of being trapped in the rubble, but optimism wanes in the face of low winter temperatures and the 72-hour deadline that is considered crucial to save lives.

However, despite this certain pessimism, Italian disaster specialist Mario Balzanelli told the ANSA news agency that it is “possible to resist and survive under the rubble for 8 to 10 days.”

The president of the Italian Society System 118 (SIS 118), explained that four conditions must be met after several people in Turkey were rescued alive under the ruins caused by the earthquake up to four days after the earthquake that devastated that country and Syria.

In this sense, he explained that the possibility that there are air spaces must concur; that the patency of the airways is maintained, that is, that there is no debris in the nose or mouth that constitutes an obstacle to breathing; there must be no major injuries affecting the brain or other vital organs and there must be no internal bleeding.

However, the number of fatalities does not stop rising, the latest official balances released in the afternoon in Argentina, by the agency AFPindicates that the latest figures stand at 20,451, of them 17,134 in Turkey and 3,317 in Syria.

To this we must add the economic losses, which according to the Fitch rating agency probably exceed “2,000 million dollars” and “could reach 4,000 million dollars or more.”
