While the ecological bonus evolves in 2023, changes in devices such as the conversion bonus or the used bonus were still unclear. Here is all you need to know.

Since January 1, 2023, the maximum ecological bonus has dropped to 5,000 euros for half of the “least modest” French people and rises to 7,000 euros for the others. But there were still some doubts about other important aid schemes, such as the conversion bonus or the bonus for used cars.

Conversion bonus targeted on the first 8 deciles

The conversion bonus, which can supplement the ecological bonus, makes it possible to receive additional aid when scrapping an old vehicle: a diesel from before 2011 or a petrol model from before 2006.

In 2022, it made it possible to recover up to 5000 euros on the purchase of a new or used electric car, subject to income conditions or for heavy riders. For people with a reference tax income (RFR) per share greater than 13,489 euros, the aid was 2,500 euros for the purchase of an electric car and 1,500 euros for a plug-in hybrid vehicle.

Big change in 2023, this conversion bonus can no longer be claimed by people with an RFR per unit greater than 22,983 euros: i.e. the last two deciles of income, as can be seen in this summary table of the Avere-France.

For the purchase of an electric car, on the other hand, it is reinforced, from 5,000 to 6,000 euros, for RFRs below 6,358 euros (the first two deciles of income per tax share 2020) and RFRs below 14,089 euros (the five first deciles) who are also heavy riders (annual mileage greater than 12,000 kilometers or home-to-work journey of more than 30 kilometers).

The aid of 2,500 euros is maintained, but for RFRs between 14,089 euros and 22,983 euros (deciles 5 to 8) and legal persons (companies and associations).

For the purchase of a plug-in hybrid car, the conversion premium is 4,000 euros for the most modest households and 1,500 euros for deciles 5 to 8 and legal persons.

Used bonus maintained at 1000 euros

Another point on which general public information sitesas this page of the site “service-public.fr”consulted this Friday, January 6, are not yet really up to date: the bonus for used electric cars is well maintained in the decree of December 30, 2022.

A bonus of 1,000 euros, without conditions of resources, which aims to support the development of the second-hand electric market. In 2022, despite a still reduced supply, sales of these models had increased by 25.8% in volume. The 71,395 used electric cars that changed hands last year still represent a drop in the bucket, with 1.3% of the market in 2022, compared to 52.35% for diesel cars and 41% for gasoline. But these sales should explode in the coming years, in the wake of the new market, with electric cars which in 2022 represented nearly 13% of sales.
