Avere France, in partnership with the Ministry of Energy Transition, has just unveiled its latest study concerning charging points for electric vehicles in France. We discover without surprise that all regions do not really benefit from the same attractiveness in this area, with some much less served than others, especially when it comes to overseas. Indeed, Guyana, although the second largest in the country in terms of area, has to make do with only 29 stations compared to 4,164 in Île-de-France, according to measurements as of December 31, 2022. This can, however, be explained by a major part of the wooded territory, across the Atlantic.

Whether Paris is clearly the best supplied region, the second happens to be Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, which this time could be explained by a certain proximity to the metropolis of Geneva. On site, we know that thermal cars are less and less present on the roads.

An interesting source of income for companies

With this, the Avere barometer allows us to see that car parks are in the top 3 when it comes to hosting electric vehicle charging stations. This is an excellent way to enhance these spaces for their owners who, when the grounds are installed in the open air, can also deploy solar panels there. By reselling the energy in these two ways, it is then easy to generate several tens of euros of income per square meter per month.

The shops, they too are now ready to make charging an additional source of growth since these would still account for 36% of installations, in first position ahead of car parks. However, it will be necessary to decide between several power categories: the terminals from 7.4 to 22 kW are those which represent the major part of the park today, with 53% of the total. Performance below 7.4 kW is just behind, with 35% of stations.

Road to 100K

With in total more than 82,000 charging stations open in France at the end of 2022, the figure is seriously increasing compared to the previous year when only 53,667 addresses were available. By doing the calculations, we end up here with an average of 122 access points per 100,000 inhabitants.

The stated objective for the following twelve months is to reach 100,000 stations throughout the country. We bet that suppliers will be able to offer better suited places than with the current distribution, which still pushes far too many consumers to favor gasoline cars rather than electric ones…
