BYD is reaping the rewards of its investments and has electric cars as its strongest allies to increase its share of the global automotive market. The Chinese automaker, so far, has 69% growth in sales in its country, further expanding its advantage as the overall leader.
The success of this growth can be explained by the already mentioned electric cars of the brand, also the best sellers in China, in a strong duel with Tesla.
Even with a 13% drop in vehicle sales in general, electric and electrified (hybrid) vehicles continue to perform better and better, with a 22% increase in the first three months of 2023. The brand’s exports also grew and are 13 times greater than than in 2022. According to the consultancy Automobility, this event became even more evident after the reopening of the market in the country, which was very affected by Covid-19.
Here in Brazil, the automaker has an aggressive market entry plan and is already planning high flights, such as the local production of electric cars. There is even the possibility that BYD buys the Ford factory in Camaçari/BA, to start work and actually start producing these zero-emission models here.
Currently, the company already sells some electrified models in our market, such as the BYD Tan, BYD Han and BYD Song-Plus

And to try to extend this success, BYD took advantage of the Shanghai Motor Show to fully introduce the BYD Seagull, its popular electric car. With a very compact size, the hatch will cost approximately R$ 60 thousand, very different from the other models of the brand, positioned in the premium segment.
According to BYD, more than 10,000 units have already been ordered shortly after the announcement at the Salon, a number that should be increased over the days.
The BYD Seagull is equipped with a 74hp electric motor and can be purchased in two battery versions: a 30kWh that offers just over 300km (Chinese measurement) and another 38kWh that delivers over 400km.
