Elektrobit has announced that it is the automotive software and services provider for Sony Honda Mobility (SHM)’s AFEELA prototype vehicle, which was unveiled at CES 2023. Elektrobit has been working with Sony for many years and is now working with SHM to reimagine software-defined automotive design. The partnership between Sony and Elektrobit began in 2019. They have jointly developed Sony’s first two VISION-S prototypes. This time, they will continue to work together to promote the mass production of AFEELA brand vehicles in 2025.

Inside the AFEELA prototype

Elektrobit built an innovative software architecture for the AFEELA prototype vehicle, allowing SHM to leverage the entire Sony ecosystem to push the user experience to a new level. The cockpit system developed by Elektrobit includes software for Qualcomm High Performance Computing (HPC) processors, as well as software that supports user experience design for all cockpit displays. In addition, Elektrobit provides integration services for the cockpit system, including all software, hardware components and applications from Sony and its partners.

The AFEELA prototype represents a major shift in the way vehicles are designed, showing the growing role of software in core vehicle operations and the way automakers innovate. Software is at the heart of the cockpit of the AFEELA prototype vehicle, enabling Sony to integrate its latest audio and camera sensor technology, as well as an impressive range of gaming, cinema and music content. SHM also recently announced a partnership with Epic Games to further enrich the in-car experience with its cockpit systems.

Maria Anhalt, CEO of Elektrobit, said: “We are honored to be a strategic software partner of Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) and to co-develop the ground-breaking AFEELA prototype vehicle project. Together with SHM, we are reshaping the definition of mobility, Committed to creating a new type of user experience that is more inspiring and emotional. Software is the starting point for us to realize this vision. This car has huge computing power, which can greatly enrich the user experience. As a result, we were able to play a more central role in this project than in a traditional OEM-supplier relationship. The AFEELA Prototype Vehicle Project exemplifies the potential benefits of this software-first mindset. We are excited We are excited to continue to advance and deepen this partnership.”
