This morning Embracer Group published its financial report with figures that leave you dreaming, but also declared having more than 90 games planned for the coming year and around thirty AAA games within 6 or 7 years. The group has many franchises, including Lord of the Ring, which it intends to fully exploit.

No less than 5 games from the Lord of the Rings in preparation

While the group’s year 2023 will be punctuated by the release of Dead Island 2, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 or Payday 3, Embracer Group has also announced the arrival of 5 games from the Lord of the Rings license for two years to come. For those who have forgotten, Embracer acquired Middle-Earth Enterprises from The Saul Zaentz Company in August 2022, allowing it to obtain the rights to the Lord of the Rings trilogy and JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit (films, video games, board games and other merchandising related to the works).

While the latest report released by Embracer has management pointing to 94 games for fiscal year 23/24, 31 AAA by 2027/2028, and 19 games released by 2025/2026, so we find out that 5 games from the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit universe would be planned by Embracer Group.

The report tells us in particular that the acquisition of Middle-Earth Enterprises has “generated great interest from internal and external partners for the intellectual property of The Lord of the Rings, in various media formats”.

Difficult to have details as to the games concerned to date, but a mobile game would be part of this list as well as The Lord of the Rings: Gollum which is still in development within the Daedalic studio (on which Embracer will receive royalties).

Fans of the Tolkien universe should closely follow the activity of Embracer Group over the coming months and years, because the Swedish giant does not seem to be short of ideas for exploiting the mythical fantasy license in video game.
