Unsurprisingly, Île-de-France and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region are those that offer the most opportunities for candidates. But the candidates themselves are attracted to other regions, further south.

14% of job offers in France are offered in Île-de-France and just as many are offered by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. If we add New Aquitaine, which concentrates 10% of the total volume of job offers, three regions alone account for 43% of open-ended contracts and nearly 37% of fixed-term job offers. It is the calculation to which delivered the Meteojob job site in its latest issue of its labor market barometer. Behind these three locomotive regions, we find in order the Grand-Est, Pays-de-la-Loire, Occitanie and, further afield, Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur.

But the candidates themselves have other preferences. If, realistically, Île-de-France is the region that attracts the most candidates, one region slips into second place in this ranking: Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur. While it is only seventh among the regions with the most job offers, it ranks second among the regions that attract the most applications. It is ahead of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and regions such as New Aquitaine and Occitanie. In any case, there is an attraction towards the South of candidates, not necessarily reinforced by the number of jobs available. The Paca region has jumped four places in one year in terms of the number of candidates.

Each region has its specificities

Ile-de-France concentrates the largest number of internship and work-study offers in the territory, with nearly 30% of the total, a figure that is a very clear increase of ten points compared to last year’s barometer . Other regions stand out for their search for temporary workers. This is the case of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Pays-de-la-Loire and New Aquitaine, due to a strong presence of construction, but also of the tertiary sector and industry.

Some sectors are more particularly providers of job offers. This is the case for industry, construction and personal services, which remain the most dynamic sectors throughout the territory, with 25% of the vacancies available on Météojob.
