HOUSTON – Extreme heat and the forecast of record electric power demand have prompted ERCOT to issue a Notice of Voluntary Conservation for today, June 20, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
In light of this situation, ERCOT urges all Texans to voluntarily reduce their electricity use, as long as it is safe to do so. However, it is important to note that ERCOT is not in an operational emergency situation.
This voluntary conservation measure is an opportunity for the citizens of Texas to come together in a collective effort to ease the burden on the electrical system. By reducing energy demand, you can help prevent power outages and ensure that everyone has access to the electricity they need during this critical period.
How can you contribute to this important initiative? Here are some simple actions you can take to reduce your electricity use during the Voluntary Conservation Notice:
- Adjust your thermostat: Increase the temperature of your air conditioner a few degrees or use fans to maintain a comfortable temperature in your home.
- Turn off the lights: Take advantage of natural light and turn off unnecessary lights in your home. Use low energy light bulbs.
- Disconnect electronic devices: Turn off appliances and electronic devices that you are not using. Even in standby mode, they continue to draw power.
- Avoid using high consumption appliances: During the Voluntary Conservation Notice period, try to avoid using washers, dryers and dishwashers, as they consume a large amount of electricity.
