A man first shares his story after surviving a shooting at his Brickell Key condominium apartment. The incident occurred nearly 3 years ago and in a lawsuit the man alleges it could have been prevented.
Guido Tassini, 32, still lives with the trauma and bullet fragments in his body after the multiple shots he received at the door of his residence. He still remembers lying on the ground covered in blood and thinking that he would not survive.
In July 2020, he had to be transferred by ambulance to a hospital where he spent 30 days admitted. One day after the shooting, the police arrested Franco Rainuzzo.
The police report states that Rainuzzo arrived at Isola Condominium in a stolen car and spoke briefly with building security.
Guido’s lawyers released a video they say shows Rainuzzo entering the building and then in the elevator, while wearing a white hard hat.
Police say the man then reached the 15th floor, knocked on the victim’s door, shot him multiple times and fled. Guido says that he still doesn’t know why he acted that way, adding that he knows a relative of the man who shot him but hasn’t spoken to that person since he was 14 years old.
Rainuzzo eventually pleaded guilty to attempted murder and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Now Guido is suing the condo association, his management company and others, alleging they were negligent and should have done more to stop Rainuzzo.
Gary Davidson, the victim’s attorney, says there were at least six occasions to prevent the shooting. One of them – according to the lawsuit – when Rainuzzo was able to enter the elevator without supervision and without Guido’s permission.
After contacting the lawyers and representatives of the companies named in the lawsuit, the management company said they cannot comment on the matter due to the lawsuit.
We also spoke with the manager of the security company, who assured that they had no obligation to provide services at the time of the shooting because their contract was overnight.
