Winter is over for around 1,000 potted plants: the huge tubs of plants were moved from the wintering halls of the Orangery Palace to Sanssouci Park on Sunday. Going out is now a tradition that is more than 200 years old.

For the trip to their summer locations in the park, the gardeners need special lifting and transport techniques – some of the buckets are extremely heavy. Park guests could look over the experts’ shoulders at work and gain insights into the historical gardening trade.

There were also guided tours on the history and functioning of the historic plant halls. Experts gave tips and suggestions on how to properly care for the orangery cultures. The Orangery of Sanssouci was built in the middle of the 19th century.
