Explosion on Mexico oil platform leaves six injured and 321 people evacuated

An explosion and fire was recorded on the Nohoch Alfa oil platform, belonging to the Cantarell field in the Campeche Sound, of Petróleos Mexicans (Pemex). This fact left six were injured and 321 people were evicted.

According to local media, the fire started at 5:25 in the morning and seven boats were used for the rescue work.

For his part, the President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador confirmed that the incident is already being attended to: “There are firefighters from Pemex, the Navy, it is on the coasts of Tabasco and Campeche (…) It was at dawn. They are registered some missing, three or four,” he said during his morning conference from the National Palace.

According to Pemex, 321 of the 328 workers were working at the time of the explosion. Likewise, he added that “he will continue to report on the control, extinction of the fire and damage assessment throughout the day,” through a statement.

Some workers from other oil platforms in the Cantarell production They declared to CNN that “the flames can be seen from the nearby platforms, so the incident seems to be of considerable magnitude.” In addition, the boats deployed were to evacuate 180 workers and to put out the fire.
