• Generation “Z” represents 61 percent of Rebelde’s listeners.

  • Sergio Mayer Morí confirmed that Netflix canceled the adaptation of the Rebelde series.

  • Most of the “RBD” audience are women.

After only two seasons, Netflix has canceled the adaptation of the series Rebel since it seems that it did not go very well and it is that unlike the original series, the result of the preferences of the spectators is very evident.

The original RBD series is made up of Anahí Puente, Dulce María, Maite Perroni, Alfonso Herrera, Cristopher Uckermann, Christian Chávez, among others, and it was a great success from its first episode that appeared in 2004, from there, it It became one of the most recognized Mexican programs on Mexican television, being translated into other languages, including Portuguese, since in Brazil it was one of the countries where this transmission was seen the most.

Not only was the TV show a hit, but so was his music, “Save me” is one of the favorite songs of the fans, on YouTube it has more than 89 million reproductions while on Spotify, the group maintains around 4.5 million listeners a month.

The fans of “RBD“They grew up listening to their successes and despite the time that has elapsed they continue to enjoy the music of this program, that is why the audience of the group covers different generations, the generation “Z” is the one that stands out the most, it is made up of the people who were born from 1996 to the early 2000s, which is reasonable considering that the peak of this series occurred from 2004 to 2008, this generation represents 61 percent of listeners ranging from 22 to 25 years old, while the millennials represent almost 33 percent of listeners from 28 to 40 years old, the generation X represents 5 percent, and it should be noted that the majority of the audience are women.

That is why it was recently announced that the original cast of the series would meet again for a tour and as expected, the tickets sold out immediately.

Failure? Netflix cancels Rebelde and fans celebrate

Due to the success of the original RBD series, Netflix decided to make a new version with actors like; Andrea Chaparro, Alejandro Puente, Selene, Azul Guaita, Franco Masini, Gigi Grigio and Jerónimo Cantillo.

Despite the fact that many were excited about this new project at its presentation, the reality is that the viewers did not show a good reaction and this is currently reflected, as there were rumors that it would be canceled and one of the main actors confirmed it, Sergio Mayer Mori, who played Esteban in the series released in January 2022, revealed the cancellation of the production shoot.

“It would be an honor for me to be able to do the third, the fourth and the fifth, the thing is that it hasn’t been done anymore. It was Netflix, it was the producers who told us: ‘thanks for everything guys, there’s no third time’. Why I have no idea, but it was definitely not my decision,” said the actor in an interview with Hola México.

Given this, surprisingly the fans of the original RBD series took it in a good way, mentioning that this version was boring.

@alexrdzx: “Thank God! It’s just Rebelde (2004) and that’s it”.

@Shaspid: “It could have been good if it wasn’t because we already have Control Z and Elite which are basically the same thing… Haha”

@ab9be1a9d8ae40a: “I never found sense in doing a #Remake from the novel, since if we are honest none of the actors who are in this series are not as well known as the original actors were at the time.

@AaronHerreera: “Now I am going to pay Netflix again ”.

@sirmisnose: “The actors were unbearable. They had no talent… And you could see that they didn’t get along with each other… The first 10 minutes was enough for me to remove it.

It is clear that on many occasions remakes or remastered projects tend not to have the same success as the original projects.
