In 2021, Netflix introduced shuffle. A function for the undecided. But the whole thing has nothing to do with watching episodes of a series completely at random. Basically, it was about saving the user from browsing and using an algorithm to find and play the right thing directly. Apparently – understandably for me – it wasn’t used often and so Netflix discontinued the whole thing. The company has found that users are more likely to come to the service with a specific show, movie, or genre in mind, which undermines the appeal of a feature like “Surprise Me,” a Netflix spokeswoman told the company Wall Street Journal. “We will continue to look for other ways to give our members more options and ways to discover content they want to see,” she said in a statement.
