Fairfax: Woman is shot in her car while her son was in it

A woman is in critical condition after being shot Saturday inside a car in Fairfax County, Virginia, according to police. Another woman and the victim’s son were also in the car, but were not injured.

Officers were called to a shooting in the parking lot of Mount Vernon Plaza in the 7700 block of Richmond Highway in Hybla Valley around 4 p.m. They found a woman who had been shot in the upper body, according to a statement from the Fairfax County Police.

The victim was later taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to the initial investigation, Montez Damone-Faggins, 29, of Front Royal, fired a gun inside the car, striking the woman. No additional details were immediately released.

Another woman, 28, from Woodbridge was also in the car along with the victim’s son, whom police described as a baby. The boy was not injured in the shooting and was placed in the care of another family member.

“We want to hear from those who were here maybe before, here during this shooting, after. Anyone who has seen anything, please come forward,” Lt. James Curry told a news conference.

Police said the victim, Damone-Faggins and the 28-year-old woman knew each other. All three were on the scene when officers arrived.

Officers found the weapon used in the shooting inside the car.

The man was charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was taken to the Adult Detention Center where he is being held without bail.

The 28-year-old woman was detained on outstanding warrants in another jurisdiction. She was being held on a guaranteed bond.
